May 2008 Flue ducts for a turbine of a cruiser now completed
Ordered by Knaak & Jahn Schiffbau GmbH Hamburg, the department plant construction fabricated three flue ducts for a cruiser, with a lenth of about 39 metres and a total weight of about 11 tons per pipe.
This pipe is used to drain flue gas of an additional turbine. The complete pipe was installed in separate components in the ships and were there completely welded.
The pipes were hanged sound-balanced and completely insulatedl. The power generation on these cruisers is carried out by turbines. The ships have nor more a conventional drive, but they are driven by rotary engines. The ships have got two turbines, each one with the same power. Therefore, it is possible to generate electricity with 50 per cent or 100 per cent, because these turbines cannot vary in rotation speed. The past has shown, that the ships for the most part need only 25 per cent of power. That is the reason why this turbine was installed addionally.
